Supporting People?

What is Supporting People?

Supporting People provides housing support services to clients to improve their quality of life and help them stay in their own home.

The types of support available include:

  • Budgeting and advice on debt;
  • Arranging repairs;
  • Accessing professional assistance;
  • Arranging and accessing social and recreational activity;
  • Addressing neighbour nuisance problems;
  • Home security and safety, and;
  • Help with claiming benefits.

These are only examples and there are many more types of support available. Support is focused on the needs of clients to provide what they need to live independently in the community.

Who can get this support?

The services provided by Supporting People are available to all those who are aged 16 or older, live independently in any type of accommodation or tenure, live within Dunoon, and have issues with alcohol or drug use.

How do people apply for support?

Access to the Supporting People services is by referral only. People cannot refer themselves. Referrals can be made by any professional working with the person. This includes the person’s GP, CPN, or any other health professional, counsellor, drug worker, and social worker.

How does the service work?

Once a completed referral form is received by CCAD, an appointment letter is sent to the person wanting the service inviting them to come for assessment to ensure that the service is appropriate and to assess the number of hours required. Once the referral has been accepted and the client wants to use the service, the client will be invited to meet with their support worker and begin their use of the service.
